AmWin software overview

14th July 2005

Hi Everyone

Welcome to our July newsletter.  July already - where has the year gone. It seems only a few weeks back that we were celebrating Christmas.

So what's in this months newsletter.

In this newsletter we tell you about the successful and informative AM-Win training seminars that were held recently in Victoria and provide information about up and coming seminars to be held in the other states.

We discuss the AM-Win Marketing module, an essential tool to help you to increase turnover and profit from existing clients and to analyse and plan for success.

Want to see ASM, Winparts, Partsmart interface or an AM-Win module live and working before you invest the money. Request a demo and sit back and watch it in action with a live presentation conducted by one of our Consultants over the internet.

There is hidden treasure in the black top menu on the AM-Win web site. X marks the spot as we give you a map to find it and what to expect when you do.

Once again Viki and Maryanne from The National Support Centre provide some useful AM-Win tips and this month our XP tips cover the address bar in Internet Explorer.

Time is running out for you to get your entry into our DOB in a mate competition. The prize is a good one so get your entry in fast. Click here to go to our DOB in a mate page.  Fill in the referral form as many times as you like and you'll be entered into our competition. Final results will be tallied on July 30th 2005 and the winner will be advised by e-mail. Details will be published in the first newsletter published after the 30th July.

And last but by no means least we present the pick of the good yarns we've received this month.  Our thanks to Brian Taylor and Ted Steward for this months selection.

OK - on with the good stuff

Victorian Training Seminars

The AM-Win training and National support team recently held a training seminar in Victoria. The training course was held over 2 days, with 2 sessions per day.

Vicki from National Support in Brisbane provided the training who, with the assistance of David Rayward, our AM-Win Victorian distributor, provided Victorian clients with a valuable range of information, hints and tips, as well as providing an overview of the new features in V7 and the program options which are now available.

We have already received some very favorable comments from clients who attended the Victorian Seminar. One was from Rhonda from Alberton Marine in Victoria who wrote:

"Viki explained each part of the course in detail which would have not been easy as there was a lot to cover and lots of questions asked along the way, but all question were answered and everybody was made to feel
comfortable no matter how simple or involved the question might have been."

Thank you Rhondah and to all of the others who wrote or phoned us with positive feedback.

AM-Win Marketing Module.

Increase turnover and profit from existing clients.

Experts tell us that it's easier to sell to existing clients than to find new business.

Those same experts tell us that you will keep your client's loyalty and build strong relationships if you stay in touch with them and keep them informed in a relaxed friendly manner.

The AM-Win Marketing Module can help you by enabling you to export your client information into Excel where you can manipulate the data into a format suitable for mail merging.   Once you have your client information in a mail merge format use it to automatically personalise mail-outs with your client's names, vehicle information etc and let your clients know about your special offers or new or existing services.

Analyse and plan for success

The AM-Win Marketing Module is also designed for those who require the information stored in their AM-Win database in a form that can be analysed and manipulated.

Relevant database information can be selected and the resulting output sent to print, or imported into Excel, where the data may then be used for mail merging [mass mailing to clients], data manipulation, creation of budgets, "what if models" or for further interrogation of results.

Cost of the Marketing Module is $250.00. Click here to request an on-line demonstration or to purchase the Marketing module.

New Remote Access Internet Technology

It's great when a product comes along that not only takes advantage of existing and familiar technology but is useful and actually works.

One of these products is called Go-TO-MY-PC, a piece of software that allows a PC user to dial into another computer from anywhere in the world over the internet.

By using this technology which allows clients to connect to our training or demonstration computers,  so that they can see everything live online as if they were in the same room,  the team at AM-Win are now able to provide clients with on-line training, demonstrations and presentations.

So if you want to see ASM, Winparts, the Partsmart interface or an AM-Win module live and working before you invest the money click here to request a demo, then sit back and watch it in action with a live presentation conducted by one of our Consultants over the internet.

How to allocate an unallocated amount in Customers/Suppliers
If you have an unallocated amount in either a customer or a supplier a/c, go to the payment screen for either customer or supplier. Use the method of 'alloc' in the customer screen and 'unalloc' in the supplier payment screen, type in the amount and double click on the invoice/s that you wish to allocate this to.

Autocode Button in Job Invoicing
The Autocode button is new to version 7 - When in job invoicing and you insert a new customer,  fill out the details of the customer and then if you don't know the customer's rego/item no. you click on the "Autocode F8"  button.  This copies the customer code with 001, 002, 003 etc. after the code so you can enter the details of the job item. (i.e. make/model etc.)

You can then change the item no. through "Others", "Job Item Code Change" when you have the correct item no.

Reprinting a POS docket
Reprinting to a docket printer - When you want to re-print a pos invoice or receipt there is a tick box in the "Print document" screen to print in docket format to a docket printer from the History module.

Changing a rego no. in Job Invoicing
You can make this change in the job invoicing screen without creating a new job number. If you have started a job card and entered the incorrect job item e.g. rego no., you can change the job item to a different one without the system creating a new job number.  Handy if you make a mistake initially.

Hidden treasure in the black top menu on the AM-Win web site.

Pre-written templates for business, legal and personal use

At the top of each page on the AM-Win web site you'll find a menu that looks like the picture below.

Most of the menu items are self explanatory but what does the templates menu item do and where does it go?

The template button will take you to a Microsoft website page where you will find a wide range of pre-written document templates for business, legal and personal use.

Don't start with a blank page - All of these templates have been written by experts in their fields and all will help you when you need to get your message across in a professional manner in that important business letter.

In our tips this month we are going to concentrate on Internet Explorer address bar.

Sick of jumping back and forth from the keyboard to the mouse while surfing? There are several keyboard shortcuts that will save you time. Learn them and you'll be surfing from site to site in record time.

All shortcuts consist of a typing one or a combination of keys. If you see a plus (+) sign, it signals you to hit both keys simultaneously. Our first two tips this week will save you a great deal of time if you use your web browser regularly.

The following tips also work in some previous versions of Windows.

Go to the address bar and start typing

OK - we want to type in a new web site address in the address bar in Internet Explorer. So we open IE and click in the address bar. But we have to delete the address that's already there - delete, delete, delete, delete. There's a better way.

Open Internet Explorer and use the alt key plus the "D" key. (ALT+ D). Your curser is now in the right place on the address bar and the existing contents of the address bar are marked in blue waiting for you to type over them. Tooo easy.

Address bar - next . or /

Now while we're on the address bar here's another great time and frustration saving tip. How many times have you made mistake while typing an address and wanted to change it. The old way was to click in the address bar and try to get your curser just after the dot or the /. Then delete, delete, delete, delete , then type. Here's the new way.

Use your Ctrl+Left Arrow when in the Address bar to move the cursor left to the next logical break (. or /)
or
use your Ctrl + Right arrow when in the Address bar, move the cursor right to the next logical break (. or /)

Add the dub dub dub automatically

Use Ctrl+Enter to automatically add "www." to the beginning and ".com" to the end of the text typed in the Address bar

Go back to a recently visited site

F4 will display the Address bar history - click the address and you're there.

Hey Honey - sure you locked the front door before we left!!!!

Our whoops shot is an actual shot taken over Iraq and sent to us by a contact in the New Zealand Air-force. Interesting - Would some-one like to e-mail us and let us know what the mechanicals under the cockpit are. If you know tell us and we'll let everyone know in the next newsletter.

Jokes

Thanks to Ted Steward programmer extraordinaire at AM-Win software for the first two yarns. Just goes to show that some programmers do have a sense of humour.

Are my testicles black?
A male patient is lying in bed in the hospital, wearing an oxygen mask over his mouth and nose, still heavily sedated from a difficult, four hour, surgical procedure. A young, student nurse appears to give him a partial sponge bath.

"Nurse", he mumbles, from behind the mask. "Are my testicles black?"

Embarrassed, the young nurse replies, "I don't know, Sir, I'm only here to wash your upper body and feet."

He struggles to ask again, "Nurse, are my testicles black?"

Concerned that he may elevate his vitals from worry about his testicles, she overcomes her embarrassment and sheepishly pulls back the covers. She raises his gown, holds his penis in one hand and his testicles in the other, lifting and moving them around. Then, she takes a close look and says, "There's nothing wrong with them Sir."

The man pulls off his oxygen mask, smiles at her and says very slowly, "Thank you very much. That was wonderful, but... listen very, very closely.....

"A r e - m y - t e s t - r e s u l t s - b a c k?"

Good looking dog, mate - with apologies to our New Zealand friends.
An Australian ventriloquist visiting New Zealand walks into a small town and sees a local sitting on his porch patting his dog. He figures he'll have a little fun.

Ventriloquist: "G'day Mate! Good looking dog, mate. Mind if I speak to him?"
New Zealander: "The dog doesn't talk, you stupid Aussie."
Ventriloquist: "Hey dog, how's it going old mate?"
Dog: "Doin' alright."
New Zealander: (extreme look of shock)
Ventriloquist: "Is this Kiwi your owner?", pointing at New Zealander
Dog: "Yep"
Ventriloquist: "How does he treat you?"
Dog: "Real good. He walks me twice a day, feeds me great food, and takes me to the lake once a week to play."
New Zealander: (look of disbelief)
Ventriloquist: "Mind if I talk to your horse?"
New Zealander: "Uh, the horse doesn't talk either...I think."
Ventriloquist: "Hey horse, how's it going?"
Horse: "Cool."
New Zealander: (extreme look of shock)
Ventriloquist: "Is this your owner?" (pointing at New Zealander)
Horse: "Yep"
Ventriloquist: "How's he treat you?"
Horse: "Pretty good, thanks for asking. He rides me regularly, brushes me down often, and keeps me in the barn to protect me from the elements."
New Zealander: (total look of amazement)
Ventriloquist: "Mind if I talk to your sheep?"
New Zealander: "The sheep's a liar.

And thanks to Brian Taylor [and Gary who sent it to Brian] for our next yarn

Just a typical Aussie baby boy.
An Aussie who was was working on contract for 3 months in the UK, was drinking in a local pub in England, gets a call on his mobile phone. He hangs up, grinning from ear to ear, he orders a round of drinks for everyone in the bar, because, he announces his wife back home has just produced a typical baby boy weighing 25 pounds.

Nobody can believe that any baby can weigh in at 25 pounds, but the  Aussie just shrugs, "That's about average in Australia. Like I said, my boy is a typical Aussie baby boy.

Congratulations showered him from all around and many exclamations of "blooody 'ell" were heard.

Two weeks later the Aussie returns to the bar. The bartender says "Hey - You're the father of that typical Aussie baby that weighed 25 pounds at birth. Everybody's been having bets about how big he'd be in 2 weeks.  So, how much does he weigh now? The proud father answers, '17 pounds"

The bartender is puzzled and concerned. "What happened? He weighed 25 pounds the day he was born.

The Aussie father takes a long s-l-o-w swig from his beer, Wipes his lips on his shirt sleeve, leans onto the bar and proudly says. "Had him circumcised mate"

Have a great month
