How to use the Correspondence Tabs
In the Customer and Supplier Master files screens there is a new Correspondence Tab. This tab allows you to record correspondence that you have had with customers or suppliers either by phone, letter or in person. Inside the Correspondence Tab you can view any correspondence you have had with the customer or supplier. Some examples of correspondence may be that you have called to chase up an outstanding debt or followed up on a sales lead. Even general correspondence or reminders can be displayed here

To insert a new correspondence item you can click on the Insert button under the Correspondence Tab. This will open the insert window.

You are then prompted with the customer code, operator, date, time etc. You can then change the date and time of the correspondence which by default is the current date and time.
You can set a correspondence item to be active, on hold or completed and this status can later be used for reporting purposes. You can then enter a brief reason for the call such as “Debt Collection”, the date and time for and next correspondence, the name of the person you spoke to, the position of that person (manager, secretary etc) and notes about the correspondence such as “I will send a cheque in the mail tomorrow”.
After clicking the OK button the correspondence entry is added to the system.

Whenever you open AM-Win it checks for any correspondence that has a next date of today and prints a report automatically of the correspondence due. This report displays to the screen first and can then be printed.
To have this happen, you are required to tick an option box in the Control System for “Correspondence Report on Opening AMWIN”. The option is based on the local INI file for a specific computer. Once the report has been displayed for the first time it will no longer be displayed for the rest of that day on the same computer.
You can, however, reprint or get a report for all correspondence for a date and status range through the correspondence report under the Reports > Customer/supplier > Customer> correspondence option. This allows correspondence search by a specific customer/supplier, operator or within a date range.
How to use the Work In Progress Tab
In the Customer Master files screen there is a new tab called WIP, which stands for Work in Progress. This tab allows you to view all of the jobs currently booked in for that customer.

You can then scroll through the list of jobs to see the details of what is booked for that customer. If you double click on the job it will open up the Job screen and display the selected job for editing.
You can also click on the small Printer Button to print out a WIP Report for that customer

How to use the Google Maps
Under the Customer and Supplier Master file screens there is a new button near the address fields called Google Map (or Map).

This button opens the Google Map search and takes you to the map for the address under the Customer or Supplier selected.

Some address formats are not accepted such as Unit numbers or other additions to a standard address. EG: 1/8 Fred Street is simply interpreted as 8 Fred Street and the unit or flat number is ignored. Once inside the Google Map site you can then print the map, get directions from somewhere else to the address and view the surrounding areas.
Google maps are also available from the invoice, credit and purchase order screens and will gradually be expanded to all screens where an address is provided. The Google Map button is a small Blue Button labeled with a “G” and can be found next to the Customer or Supplier Code Buttons.

Windows, Word and Excel Tips
Windows

Spare me the Details!
If you want to print a web page and don't want to print all the header and footer information that gets printed on each and every page both Internet Explorer and Firefox let you do it.
With Internet Explorer, you can adjust the settings easily, or even customise them:
1. Click the File menu, Page Setup.
2. Find the "Headers & Footers" area and remove all the gibberish in the respective fields. Hit OK and there you have it.
If you happen to be using Internet Explorer 8, use this same procedure, but instead of removing the gibberish manually, just use the drop-down boxes to select "none" instead.
Before:

After:

Now that will keep the computer from printing out all of your header and footer info, but what if you want some of it? Well, you can do that too, using the parameters below in the header and footer fields:
&w Window title
&u Page address (URL)
&d Date in short format as specified by Regional Settings in Control Panel
&D Date in long format as specified by Regional Settings in Control Panel
&t Time in the format specified by Regional Settings in Control Panel
&T Time in 24-hour format
&p Current page number
&P Total number of pages
&& A single ampersand (&)
&b The text immediately following these characters as centered.
&b&b The text immediately following the first "&b" as centered, and the text following the second "&b" as right-justified.
For example, if you want the header to have the window (page) title and the URL, you would type:
&w &u

If you wanted to make it so it also specified you were the one who printed it, you could put something like:
&w &u Printed by Steve on &d

The only thing you need to keep an eye on is the spacing. To get a single space between items (like &w&u) you need to hit the space bar twice. Experiment and you'll get it.
In Firefox, open File/Page Setup then click the "Margins & Header/Footer" tab. No secret codes needed here like in IE. Just use the drop-down menus to select what information you want left, center, or right.
Let's say I want the title and URL in the header along with page number and Date/Time in the footer. Here's how it would look...

If I want the field blank, I choose "--blank--". If I want to add my own text I choose "Custom" and a box pops up for my text.
When you're done just click OK.
So, whatever your browser you can add as much or as little info in the header and footer as you want.
MS Word

Recover images from a Word Document
If you have a word document and you want to recover the images in the document this tip may be useful. When there are several images, a fast way is to save all of your pictures in one procedure.
Open your Word document. Left click on “File” in the Tool bar at the top of the window and select “Save as Web Page”.
Note: Depending on your Menu setting you may need to click on the double arrow at the bottom of the drop down menu box to display the “Save as Web Page” option.

When you save a Word document as a Web page, Word creates a subfolder in same folder that contains the original document. Open the Folder that contains the original Word document

Double Left click on the subfolder to display the image files. In the subfolder the pictures that were in the original Word document are now listed as image001.jpg, image002.jpg and so on.

You can now rename the image files, move them to another folder or open them in any graphics program you may have.
Replace old fonts in documents
When you open documents that were created a long time ago on a system far, far away (sounds almost epic, doesn't it?), you may discover that the documents contain fonts you no longer have installed on your system. You'll obviously want to change those fonts to new formatting, and doing so in a reasonable manner is the subject of this tip. (This tip works with Microsoft Word 97, Word 2000, Word 2002, Word 2003, and Word 2007.)
There are times when Microsoft drop fonts when a new Windows program is released. If you have periodically updated to new Windows versions you may find that the fonts that you used in a document are no longer available.
You can list these fonts by using the font substitution tool, but you can't always locate the fonts in the document using find and replace. So is there a foolproof way of locating all instances of the missing fonts. You might also like to see where the font is used so that you can determine which font should be used to replace it.
One option is to go ahead and use the font substitution tool to replace the old fonts with a new font that you know you don't use for any other purpose. You can then use the Find and Replace feature of Word to search for the new font, examine the context, and then make replacements as you deem appropriate.
You can also use the Styles and Formatting pane to examine any instances where that font is used, if you prefer. In the pane, have Word display all the formatting in use. Then look for any styles that utilize the replacement font. You can then use the tools in the pane to display the number of occurrences of the formatting and, if desired, apply a different style to those elements.
MS Excel

Editing a Hyperlink
For those who don't know what a hyperlink is it's a piece of text that takes you to another location when clicked. For example the words click here are a hyperlink because they automatically open another location (in this case our downloads page] when clicked.
Excel will cheerfully keep track of all sorts of hyperlinks for you. If you want to change the hyperlink in some way, don't do it by clicking. Instead, use one of the techniques spotlighted in this tip. (This tip works with Microsoft Excel 97, Excel 2000, Excel 2002, Excel 2003, and Excel 2007.)
Once a hyperlink is placed in your worksheet, it is not unusual to periodically need to change the link in some way. This is quite easy to do, using any of the following methods:
Select the cell that contains the hyperlink and then click on the Hyperlink tool on the Insert tab of the ribbon. (In older versions of Excel click the Insert Hyperlink tool on the toolbar.)
Select the cell that contains the hyperlink, and then click Insert Hyperlink from the Insert menu. (This only works in versions of Excel prior to Excel 2007.)
Right-click on the hyperlink, choose Hyperlink from
the Context menu, and then choose Edit Hyperlink.
To select a cell in which a hyperlink is located, simply click on an adjacent
cell (one without a hyperlink) and use the arrow keys to select the cell. If you
try to click on the cell directly, you will instead activate the hyperlink.
At the conclusion of any of these steps, the Edit Hyperlink dialog box is visible. The difference between this instance and actually adding a hyperlink is that all the information in the dialog box is already filled in. You can make edits to your heart's content, and then click on OK to save your changes.
While pulling up the Edit Hyperlink dialog box provides the most flexibility (you can change everything about the link in one place), it can be a pain to do. If all you want to do is change the text used for the hyperlink, Excel makes the process very easy. Simply change the contents of the cell, and the hyperlink text is automatically changed. Thus, you can select the cell containing the hyperlink and begin typing. What you type becomes the text for the hyperlink.
Move from one open Excel window to the other - fast
Need to quickly move from one open Excel window to the other? The program provides a couple of handy shortcuts you can use, but if you want to create a toolbar button you can use instead, you'll want to use the macro in this tip. (This tip works with Microsoft Excel 97, Excel 2000, Excel 2002, Excel 2003, and Excel 2007.)
If you routinely use several open workbooks to do you work, you already know that you can change between workbook windows by choosing the workbook name from the Window menu.
There is a shortcut for changing windows. You can cycle through your documents by pressing either CTRL+F6 or SHIFT+CTRL+F6. The difference is that CTRL+F6 cycles through the list of windows in a forwards direction, while SHIFT+CTRL+F6 cycles through the list backwards. If you would rather not take your hands off the mouse, you can create a macro which cycles through the windows. This macro can then be assigned to a toolbar button. The following macro will do the trick:
Sub ChangeWin() On Error GoTo ChangeWinErr Set nw = ActiveWindow.ActivateNext If Windows.Count > 1 Then nw.Activate Exit Sub End If ChangeWinErr: Windows(1).Activate End Sub
Please note that we do not provide support for our Word and Excel tips as they are provided by a third party. If you need further information why not try using Google - Cut and paste the heading of our tip into Google's search box. You'll be amazed at the information available.
Whoops
These guys have just installed steel bollards in concrete to stop vehicles from parking on the pavement outside a Sports Bar. They are now in the process of cleaning up at the end of the day and anxious to go home. Wonder how long it will be before they realise where they parked?

Jokes

Dey makes you really hot
Our first yarn is an oldie but is still one of the classics and worth publishing again.
A middle aged couple was on holiday in Jamaica. They
were touring around the market-place looking at the souvenirs, when they passed
a small sandal shop.
From inside they heard the shopkeeper with a Jamaican accent say, 'You come in.
Come into my humble shop..'
So the couple walked in.
The Jamaican said to them, 'I 'ave some special sandals I tink you would be
interested in. Dey makes you really hot.'
Well, the wife was really interested in buying the sandals after what the man
claimed, but her husband felt that he really didn't want to discuss his
shortcomings with a stranger.
The husband asked the man, 'How could sandals make you that hot?'
The Jamaican replied, 'Just try dem on, Mon.'
Well, the husband, after some badgering from his wife, finally gave in and tried
them on.
As soon as he slipped them onto his feet, he got this wild look in his eyes,
something his wife hadn't seen for a long long time!!
In the blink of an eye, the husband grabbed the Jamaican, bent him over the
table, and was just about to rip his pants off when the Jamaican began
screaming:
'You got dem on de wrong feet!'
A Love Story for Golfers
An elderly couple were having dinner one evening when
the husband reached across the table, took his wife's hand in his and said, "
Martha, soon we will be married 50 years, and there's something I have to know.
In all of these 50 years, have you ever been unfaithful to me?"
Martha replied, "Well Henry, I have to be honest with you. Yes, I've been
unfaithful to you three times during these 50 years, but always for a good
reason.
Henry was obviously hurt by his wife's confession, but said, "I never suspected.
Can you tell me what you mean by 'good reasons?'"
Martha said, "The first time was shortly after we were married, and we were
about to lose our little house because we couldn't pay the mortgage. Do you
remember that one evening I went to see the banker and the next day he notified
you that the loan would be extended?"
Henry recalled the visit to the banker and said, "I can forgive you for that.
You saved our home, but what about the second time?"
Martha asked, "And do you remember when you were so sick, but we didn't have the
money to pay for the heart surgery you needed? Well, I went to see your doctor
one night and, if you recall, he did the surgery at no charge."
"I recall that," said Henry. "And you did it to save my life, so of course I can
forgive you for that. Now tell me about the third time."
"Alright," Martha said. "So do you remember when you ran for president of your
golf club, and you needed 73 more votes?"
I'm so lonely
A lonely frog, desperate for any form of company telephoned the Psychic
Hotline to find out what his future has in store.
His Personal Psychic Advisor advises him, "You are going to meet a beautiful
young girl who will want to know everything about you."
The frog is thrilled and says, "This is great! Where will I meet her, at work,
at a party?"
"No" says the psychic, "in a Biology class."
Oh my God!

An atheist was walking through the woods.
'What majestic trees!, 'What powerful rivers!, 'What beautiful animals!, He said
to himself.
As he was walking alongside the river, he heard a rustling in the bushes behind
him.
He turned to look.. and saw a 7-foot grizzly bear charge towards him.
He ran as fast as he could up the path. He looked over his shoulder & saw that
the bear was closing in on him..
He looked over his shoulder again, & the bear was even closer.
He tripped & fell on the ground. He rolled over to pick himself up but saw that
the bear was right on top of him,
reaching for him with his left paw & raising his right paw to strike him.
At that instant the Atheist cried out, 'Oh my God!'
Time stopped. The bear froze. The forest was silent and a bright light shone
upon the man,
A voice came out of the sky. 'You deny my existence for all these years, teach
others I don't exist and even
credit creation to cosmic accident.' 'Do you expect me to help you out of this
predicament?
Am I to count you as a believer?
The atheist looked directly into the light, 'It would be hypocritical of me to
suddenly ask you to treat me as a Christian now, but perhaps you could make the
Bear a Christian'?
'Very well,' said the voice.
The light went out. The sounds of the forest resumed. The bear brought both paws together,
bowed his head & spoke,
'Lord bless this food, which I am about to receive from thy bounty, Amen.'
Until next month
